I've always wanted to try T.N. Dickinson witch hazel, but read reviews about the smell of the product. I had to grab this one and see what the fuss was about. I have to say the smell is not pleasant at all and it was really hard for me to overcome it. It's hard to explain exactly what that smell is. It has a very medicinal or herbal kind of smell to it. The smell is a bit strong when I put it on the cotton pad and on my face, but once I'm done it's not so bad since I apply other products over it. I think once you get used to it, it wouldn't be such an issue. I personally can't get used to the smell. I smelled the Dickinson one in the store before and it's quite similar.

With the alcohol in it, it doesn't really dry up my face as much as I thought it would like many other astringents. It seem to work fine during the summer months when my face is a bit more oily. I haven't notice anything special with the regular use of it. It works fine after cleansing to get rid of dirt, makeup residue, and dead skin off my face. I've also used it over insect bites and shaved areas to calm the skin. It would be a cheaper alternative to T.N. Dickinson's or Thayer's witch hazel. I prefer purchasing Thayer's since it's alcohol free and gentler for my skin. I think I will mix the rest of the bottle with my Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel to tone down the scent. I don't think I'll attempt to buy the Dickinson's brand after trying this cheaper alternative because their scent and ingredients are similar. Overall, it's a good natural toner for your skin and any kind of irritations. It's a good addition to your first aid kit or skin care regimen.

If you're interested in this product, I found it under the first aid aisle near the hydrogen peroxide and bandages at my local Target store. I don't plan to repurchase this item. If you are like me and can't decide if you want to try the Dickinson witch hazel for a little $$ more than the Target brand, then give this a try first. Both sizes are at 16 fl oz.
