I brought these samples last year and now I'm finally testing them out again to see if I changed my opinion on their foundations. I thought I found my color after trying it before, but a lot of them seems very orangey on me or it doesn't give enough coverage. For a while light olive seem to work then it just seem really dark after oxidizing. Medium beige blends in well but doesn't give me good coverage. I emailed Everyday Minerals and they responded after about 2 days and said medium beige should be close to Bare Minerals medium beige. They also suggest to try their sample kits and see if I find another match. I brought their golden medium pressed powder(discontinued) a while ago. Lately I been using it with a hand and it blends in pretty well. Just not enough coverage and doesn't last all day.
Description from EM:
Intensive Base is oil absorbing, perfectly matte and used for heavier coverage in humid climates. For oily complexions who want the look of matte.
Original Glo Base adds a luminous glow, light coverage for your complexion. Composed of natural light reflecting minerals for a sheer look. Best for normal to dry complexions.
Matte Base is beautifully matte with full coverage for combination skin.
Semi-Matte Base creates a hydrating soft dewy complexion with medium coverage, while feeling creamy to the touch.
Semi matte makes my face look glowy, but it does not give the same finish and coverage as Bare Escentuals original mineral foundation. Matte was enough to cover very minor imperfections and even the skin out with minimal shine, BE seem to give better medium to full coverage. Intensive was a bit drying but gave better coverage.
Left Picture: Swatches of #2-7 from right to left. Colors are too yellow or orange. #3Medium Beige Neutral seems to blend into my skin. I tried this and it doesn't give me enough coverage. Even though it say full coverage with buildable layers. To me it's more like a sheer to medium coverage even if I build up layers. It does not last all day. It's good for someone with minimal imperfections and just to even skin tone.
Picture on right:
I blended the swatches and above the swatches I buffed one layer of my Bare Escentuals medium beige. The swatches are still pretty obvious. Above with one layer of BE, it covers minor flaws and it can be built to full coverage.
Pros:
- Price ($12 for regular size 5g jar or $2.50 sample 1g jar)
- Affordable for the amount you get
- Powder is finer than Bare Escentuals
- Offers many shades (Over 20 shades)
- 4 types of base formulas
- Leak proof with closeable sifters
- Flat thin packaging. It contains tons of product.
- Bigger lid to swirl my minerals
- Doesn't make my skin itch since it doesn't contain bismuth oxychloride
- Offer one free sample kit (sorted by shades) per order no purchase necessary just pay for shipping. Additional samples $2.50
- For some reason, EM foundation makes my face shiny with or without a finishing powder. I even tried using finishing powder before to prime and absorb excess oil. Doesn't work!!!
- Oxidizes fast and throughout the day. Check your face in the mirror and see if this happens to you.
- Colors are too orange or yellow. Works better as a eye concealer. Don't toss those samples out. It might work for dark circles.
- Hard time matching my skintone
- Does not last all day
- Not enough coverage
- Color swatches on their website don't look the same as actual product. The way it looks maybe appear and act different on your skin.
- Must moisturize or it will accentuate dry patches and fine lines
Apply a little at a time. Sprinkle about a pea size or less. Build up the layers to your desired coverage. This makes it less cakey. Just BUFF, BUFF, BUFF.
I ordered quite a lot of their eye shadows before they changed everything on their website. I will do another review on that soon with swatches. I have a love hate relationship with their foundations.
I hope this is helpful. This is based on my experience with their foundation. Try their samples first and test out the different formulas to see how your skin reacts to it. I still like their products and want to try their other products.
