I discovered that the Giovanni 2chic Ultra-Sleek Body Lotion has a fragrance that reminds me of Josie Maran’s Sweet Citrus Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter. Although the two products are not exact dupes, the Giovanni lotion may be a good fragrance alternative for anyone who enjoyed the citrus scent of the Josie Maran body butter.

Texture and consistency

The Josie Maran product has a whipped, lightweight body-butter texture. It feels richer and creamier than an everyday lotion without being excessively heavy.

The Giovanni product has a thinner lotion consistency. It spreads more quickly and may be easier to use when you want lightweight moisture over a larger area of the body.

Because their textures are different, I would not consider them exact formula or performance dupes.

Fragrance

The strongest similarity between these products is their fragrance. To me, both have a sweet citrus aroma similar to the natural citrus scent I noticed in Acure argan oil.

The Josie Maran body butter used citrus fruit extracts, while the Giovanni lotion listed natural fragrance. They did not smell completely identical, but they were similar enough that the Giovanni lotion reminded me of the Sweet Citrus scent.

Moisturizing performance

Both products felt moisturizing without leaving my skin excessively greasy. They contained argan oil along with several other emollient and moisturizing ingredients.

The Josie Maran body butter felt richer and was better suited to times when I wanted a more indulgent moisturizer. The Giovanni lotion felt lighter and worked well for everyday use.

The Josie Maran body butter contained ingredients such as aloe, glycerin, argan oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, avocado oil, panthenol, and several plant extracts.

The Giovanni lotion contained ingredients such as glycerin, olive oil, fatty alcohols, panthenol, argan oil, aloe, coconut oil, macadamia extract, and shea butter extract.

Both formulas were listed as paraben-free, which matched my personal product preferences at the time. However, “paraben-free” does not automatically mean that a product is safer or more effective.

Anyone with sensitive skin or fragrance sensitivities should review the current ingredient list and consider patch-testing the product.

Price and value

When I originally wrote this review, the Josie Maran body butter was approximately $12 for 2 ounces, while the Giovanni lotion was approximately $8.99 for 8.5 fluid ounces.

Based on those prices, the Giovanni lotion offered considerably more product for the money. I purchased my Josie Maran body butter as part of a set, which made it a better value than purchasing the small size separately.

The Giovanni lotion is not an exact dupe for the Josie Maran body butter. Its texture is thinner, and the overall experience is less rich.

Choose the Josie Maran body butter if you prefer a richer, whipped moisturizer and a more luxurious application experience. Choose the Giovanni lotion if you want a lighter everyday moisturizer, more product for the price, and a similar sweet citrus fragrance.

My preference for everyday use was the Giovanni lotion because of its lighter consistency and better value.
